Artefuse Magazine: Unique Vision of Myself and Others by Santiago Ydañez

Most people think they got a clear vision of themselves but in reality a deeply nuanced person has complexities that cannot be deduced by mere sight. Spanish artist Santiago Ydanez presented textured and multi-faceted portraiture in grand scale and in unique presentation with his show Myself and Others that opened last January 22^nd. AF came to witness the evocative rich layers of monochromatic tones over deep dark background or ultra-white with his rendition of faces and some animals. There was a row of utensil sets in boxes where he created art in the interior of the top lid with mini-paintings. The fact that he can meticulously execute the same brush strokes whether it be in smaller version or the large masterpieces is proof beyond measure that his work bares the real complicated sense of self. Man is a complex creature and it is amazing to see art that is equally up to par.
